Mock Cop 30 - Inverness By Jessica Smith - Culloden Academy - representing Brazil at Mock COP Credit: Paul Campbell The Model Conference of the Parties is an exclusive and inclusive event encouraging voice and change from the perspective of youths. Mock Cop is a youth initiative which strongly connects to the mirroring of Model UN. Groups of adolescent individuals ‘role-play’ as different countries and organisations to negotiate and develop real solutions to target the continued unfurl of the Climate Crisis. This event provides a platform which is used to influence global climate action across the world for modifications to be made. Young people take action amplifying voices at the highest levels. The Mock Cop took place on the 10th of November, held in the Highland Council Chambers in the Centre of Inverness, coinciding with the real COP30 held in Brazil. 12 individual schools throughout the Highlands had the chance for their young people to partake in various tasks and separate events planned through the Mock Agenda. Credit: Paul Campbell Aims to draw attention to the current changes which adapt the climate had become successful through this event, bringing people and voices together to project communication directly to those who are willing to listen. Having this platform gave copious amounts of encouragement for many to share, create and exchange innovative approaches to the climate crisis. Overall all countries and organisations had the same focus to achieve change. Within the Mock COP there was ample opportunity for partnership as well as individuality. This opportunity itself gave a great chance to meet great key speakers, have a chance to engage with other climate confident peers from around Inverness including debating and negotiating resolutions which resulted in a majority of results equaling the significant ability of young people to take serious consideration and action to their climate. On behalf of Culloden Academy we thank all Organisers and Participants for their efforts to make this event happen, it was a great pleasure to participate in the MockCOP30 for Inverness. Young people are often untrusted and doubted in serious situations so we truly appreciate the platform to present true representation of our generation. With that we hope for continuous achievements to be gained from the annual experience. Mock COP is an annual event that brings young people together to debate climate action and global co-operation. It is designed to help young people understand complex environmental issues, develop key skills, and amplify their voices in shaping a sustainable future for Scotland and beyond.
