/// Inspiring People Online Events ///

In light of the current pandemic and venue restrictions, we have had to move our Inspiring People events online. Starting on 23rd September, we are hoping to hold one event per week on a Wednesday evening at 7.30pm, via Zoom. We are doing our upmost to help maintain our work programme, keep the Society afloat and serve our Members and supporters  so we hope you enjoy these online alternatives.

Each week, anyone is welcome to join these events from any of our Local Groups around Scotland, or indeed from anywhere around the world. Tickets to these events are available via www.rsgs.org, and are FREE for RSGS Members, U18s and Students, or £5 for Visitors. You must reserve a ticket to attend.

Each event will last approximately 60 minutes, and will feature a film produced by the speaker, followed by a live Q&A.

As ever, our programme of geographical practitioners – explorers, scientists, artists, academics, naturalists, leaders, communicators and enthusiasts – will bring amazing stories of journeys and adventures, and refreshing insights into current issues. So what are you waiting for?

Inspiring People in September
Jamie Livingstone FRSGS

Jamie Livingstone considers the impact of COVID-19, the required responses (immediate and longer-term), and implications for the simultaneous and overlapping challenges of inequality and the climate crisis. He offers personal reflections on the consequences of the pandemic for tackling poverty, and the prospects for building a fairer, more sustainable planet.

Craig Mathieson

RSGS Explorer-in-Residence Craig Mathieson takes us on a dramatic journey with The Polar Academy, the inspiring charity he founded in 2015 which has since been dubbed Europe's toughest youth training programme!

How Online Events Will Work
1. Head over to www.rsgs.org and select a talk in the What's On > All Events section.

2. Click BOOK to reserve a place.

3. This will take you to Eventbrite, where you should register for the event.

4. Please create an Eventbrite account, with a memorable password for access later.

5. Before the event, an email will be sent automatically by Eventbrite providing a link to Zoom, the platform we will be using. Please check your junk or spam messages if the email doesn't arrive. Make sure you have downloaded Zoom software on the computer, smartphone, tablet or other device that you wish to use for the event.

6. Fifteen minutes before the event, at 7.15pm, the Zoom link will go live.

7. The event will begin at 7.30pm, or shortly afterwards, and will be hosted by RSGS staff.
